A Brief History
This BR Standard class of engine was designed at Doncaster by Riddles, and introduced between 1952 and 1957. They were built for intermediate passenger and cross-country work, and were smaller than the 75000 class. They were based on the Ivatt 43000 class. One hundred and fifteen engines were built at Horwich and Doncaster, and they were based in all regions apart from the Western. They travelled far and wide and were highly regarded. 76058 spent most of its working life on the Southern Region, including banking duties out of Weymouth. Like most its class, it saw less than twelve years service.
