A Brief History
Which of our models would make it right to the top of the catwalk? In the opinion of your writer, you really would be hard pressed to beat the Wainwright 0-6-0s. They were among some of the most elegant locos in the country, and when built, they were beautifully finished with burnished brass dome covers and known as "coppertops". One hundred and nine of the class were built, and they were capable of hard work over the surprisingly difficult South East Coast railway routes to the Kent coast. Very much a product of Edwardian England, virtually the whole class survived into BR days.
