A Brief History
The Fowler 4F 0-6-0 class were introduced in 1924, and a total of 580 locomotives produced until the outbreak of war. They were to become a familiar sight all over the London Midland region, as well as in southern Scotland. Though a freight engine, they saw regular service on passenger workings, most notably on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Members of the class would also make occasional sorties to resorts as far apart as Morecombe, Skegness and Filey Holiday Camp. 44331 was unusual in being withdrawn in December 1962 before being reinstated following the harsh winter in February 1963. It was finally withdrawn 12 months later in February 1964.
