A Brief History
The initial plan was for the constuction of a class of 418 heavy freight locomotives to be built in Great Britain under licence from General Motors of the USA. By the late 1990's when the plan was conceived, there was little hope of that happening - Britain had by then long since lost its manufacturing base, and construction was undertaken at the GM plant in London, not the UK London, but rather the Canadian London in Ontario. The Class proved highly succesful and became the standard European Freight Locomotive - durable, rugged and easy to maintain.
