Hornby BR (Early) "Sir Herbert Walker K.C.B." Patriot Class R3017
Wheel Configuration: 4-6-0
Motor: 5 Pole Skew Wound
A Brief History
The Patriots were always among your writer's favourite class of locomotive. Not least, like his previous cat Gladys, they were wanderers and you never knew where they would turn up next. They regularly found service in the north west, on the Midland main line and on cross country services, and because they were a relatively small class, they were always a bit special. The class was introduced in 1930 to a design of Sir Henry Fowler, and rebuilt under H.G. Ivatt. They were used alongside the Royal Scots, and due to their similar appearance were nicknamed the "Baby Scots".
